Emma Williams – MBE

I am mother to Matthew and I started the Matthew’s Friends charity back in 2004 when Matthew was successfully treated with the Ketogenic diet after years of terrible seizures and cocktails of ineffective medications.

His full story is available to read at www.matthewsfriends.org

My dream has always been to open a clinic so that never again would a family not be able to access a ketogenic diet and others suffering with drug resistant epilepsy would get the chance to have a better quality of life and try a dietary therapy if they wished to.

I have 6 years personal experience using these diets with Matthew, but over 14 years experience of supporting other families and working full time in the ketogenic therapy field. It is safe to say that the ketogenic diet has taken over my life.

As well as Matthew’s Friends Charity and Clinics, I serve on the ILAE (International League Against Epilepsy) Dietary Task Force and am an International Patron for ‘Diets For Epilepsy In India’ organisation.

Together with my Co-director Julie Edwards, I will be responsible for the smooth running of the clinics as well as contractual agreements and service level agreements, the development and running of KetoCollege.

I will also be involved in Clinical Research, support and educational work with the families. My goal is always to give the families and patients the best possible service and support that they deserve.

It is an honour to be involved in their lives and to help as much as we can.
